A-Z of Challenges
These are only ideas, but they may help to get you started.
What can you do to make your Neighbourhood Safer?
A is for Art
You could organise a SNAC Art Competition at your school or youth club – encouraging people to think about the idea of safety within your community.
B is for Bike Marking
You could organise a bike-marking scheme for all the people at your school or youth club. Too many bikes get stolen in London – and your project could help to reduce crime.
C is for Cars
What can you do to reduce vehicle crime in your local neighbourhood?
D is for Drugs Awareness
What can you do to raise awareness of the harmful effects of drugs in your neighbourhood?
E is for Environmental Improvement
Have you got a part of your local neighbourhood that needs cleaning up? Or perhaps some of your neighbours could do with a helping hand in their gardens.
F is for Football
Perhaps you could arrange a regular football project for the people who go to your school or youth club – or who live in your local neighbourhood. What other sports can you think of?
G is for Graffiti
You could organise a graffiti removal project in your neighbourhood – and perhaps arrange a place in the local area where people are allowed to paint graffiti without breaking the law.
H is for Home Improvement
What can you do to improve safety (and reduce crime) in the homes in your neighbourhood?
I is for Internet
Perhaps you could design a website for your SNAC project – or set up a SNAC chat room so that people can swap ideas about making their neighbourhoods safer.
J is for Journalism
If the internet isn’t your thing, perhaps you could write an article for one of the local newspapers about safety in your neighbourhood.
K is for Knife Awareness
What can you do to warn young people about the dangers of carrying knives?
L is for Lock fitting
Why not think about doing something to help prevent your school or youth club being broken into?
M is for Mopeds & Mobiles
What can you do to make sure that mopeds are ridden safely and legally – and that mobile phones don’t get stolen – in your neighbourhood?
N is for Neighbourhood Watch
Why not set up a Young Person’s Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in your part of the Borough?
O is for Open Spaces
What can you do to improve safety in the parks and open spaces in your neighbourhood?
P is for Personal Safety
What can you do to improve personal safety in your neighbourhood? How about setting up some self-defence classes for the young people in your area?
Q is for Questionnaires
Why not design a questionnaire to find out what the people who live and work in your neighbourhood think about making it safer?
R is for Road Safety
What can you do to improve safety on the roads in your neighbourhood?
S is for Song Writing
Why not write and record your own SNAC track?
T is for TV
Or perhaps you could make your own film or television programme about safety in your neighbourhood?
U is for Underground Stations
What can you do to improve safety in the tube stations in your neighbourhood?
V is for Visiting People
Why not spend some time helping and supporting the elderly or vulnerable people who live in your neighbourhood. Perhaps you could organise a Bingo Night or a Tea Dance.
W is for Wheelchair Access
You could design a project to improve disabled access to all the facilities at your school or youth club.
X is for X-Box (or other Games Console) Competition
How about setting up a computer games Olympics? After all, London is hosting the real thing in 2012.
Y is for Youth Clubs
What can you do to improve facilities and safety in your local youth club?
Z is for Zoo Trips
OK – so we were struggling a bit by the time we got to Z!
